Kuwait warns against sea pollution with strict penalties

Kuwait warns

Kuwait is stepping up efforts to protect its marine environment, reminding the public of the tough penalties for polluting local and regional waters.

The Environment Public Authority confirmed that under Article 68 of the Environmental Protection Law, anyone who deliberately pollutes the sea with harmful substances will face imprisonment of up to 6 months, a fine of up to 200,000 Kuwaiti dinars, or both.

Pollutants covered under the law include oil and its waste, toxic or harmful liquids, untreated sewage, chemicals, radioactive materials, and harmful energy. These rules apply to Kuwait’s internal waters, territorial sea, and surrounding marine areas.

The authority emphasized that it continues to raise awareness and strictly enforce measures to safeguard Kuwait’s seas from intentional pollution.
